Less lethal weapons
These six sheets give a brief overview of less lethal weapons including their potential effects and risks. They summarize when and how these weapons can be used lawfully, as well as clear prohibitions on when and how they should not be used. Each sheet also describes risks in specific situations, such as during protests or against children. The sheets are based on the existing, more detailed publications by Amnesty International on the different weapons as well as on Amnesty’s 2015 Guidelines on the Implementation of the United Nations Basic Principles on the Use of Force and Firearms by Law Enforcement Officials.
