Cameroon: Authorities must stop harassment of human rights defender Alice Nkom and attacks on civil society organizations
On 10th of December 2024, the Committee against Torture issued a damning report on Cameroon, highlighting a wide range of serious human rights violations. Among the observations presented are reports of torture and ill-treatment, incommunicado detention in unofficial places of detention or military bases, and the large number of deaths, including violent deaths, that reportedly occur in places of detention.
And despite being strongly criticized for insufficient protection of representatives of civil society, human rights defenders, and journalists against intimidation, excessive use of force, and arbitrary arrests, Cameroonian authorities continue the misuse of the justice system and target human rights defenders and activists in its attacks on civil society organizations.
